This time around I am just trying a regular Normal map baking with BI. I’ll try Cycles again eventually, but for now I’ll just keep things simple.
I have both meshes, Low & High poly.
I have unwrapped the Low poly mesh already.
I have 2 windows open, one for the 3D view, the other for the UV/Image Editor.
- I create a new image and leave it open.
- I select the Low poly mesh first, then shift-click the Hi poly. As a result of this I can see in the Outliner window the meshes display orange dots on their icons. The lighter dot is on the Hi poly.
- Finally make sure I have these rendering settings in the Bake section: Bake mode: Normals, and Selected to active checked, everything else I leave alone.
A second after I click on Bake, the UV/Image Editor replaces the image I had left open for nothing (no image), and then Blender tells me “No obj or images found to bake to” ! Go figure
