Node Removal, Maintain Connection

Not sure if the title makes sense, but I’ll try to explain.
Imagine a string of 3 nodes, connected in sequence. Meaning 1 connected to 2, and 2 connected to 3.
Is it possible to drag node 2 out of that thread/sequence without breaking the connection?
So now node 1 is connected to 3.
I don’t want to delete the node I drag out because I then want to re-insert it somewhere else.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Use this addon: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/addons/node/node_wrangler.html

I think you can just duplicate the node and put it somewhere else. Then press control + x to delete it without losing connections.

That’s the closest way to your needs but other than that you can search in the documentations for node wrangler.

If you hold alt while dragging the node it does that.

Hmmmm… I using Blender 2.83.0 with the Node Wrangler, and for some reason holding alt doesn’t do anything. Strange.

Ahhhh… apparently if you have “Emulate 3 Button Mouse” selected in your prefs it’ll mess with this.
Darn… I like the “Emulate 3 Button Mouse” setting.
