I’m totally new to blender (not totally, I know how to use it) and I have never finished a project. I’d like to start w/ something simple, and have someone guide me through making it. I’d like to make a table w/ something on it. like a lava lamp or something… Could someone suggest a simple item for me to make, and then guide me through the process???
Wrong forum, try one of the Q and A forums.

Yes indeed, wrong forum. But in case you happen to return here first, the short answer is: do every tutorial you can find. And you can find a lot of them right here.
“Doing a tutorial,” even a single one, might take a week or more. Do not rush it.
Furthermore… keep a diary, as in a loose-leaf notebook and a number two pencil. You’ll have loads of questions: start by capturing them. Once you have captured it, you can’t lose it, and now you can choose when to return to it. Writing down a daily log of what you did each day helps to resume what you were doing quickly. And, maybe it’s just me, but doing this by hand, away from the computer (but promptly!) helps.
We really shouldn’t have to remind people to read the forum titles. Or the forum descriptions. Or even the forum stickies.
Edit: Let me be a little more specific, as I think I may’ve been a little harsh at first. Focused Critique is for Critique, not hand holding (this isn’t bad!). You’d be better off coming up with a basic object or scene and going step by step through it in the WIP. Start with modeling then lighting/texturing. Ask questions, search and then ask questions in the Q&A forums.
