Noob modeling question - Should I attempt to add faces in a symetrical way ....

Even though I’ve been doing this a bit, I’m still pretty much a total noob. I have a pretty basic question.

Most tuts that I have completed try to keep the geometry mostly symmetrical. However, I’m currently trying to model a rose. I’m doing a leaf (vertice by vertice around the leaf) and when adding geometry I was wondering if it was important to try to keep the faces mostly symmetrical. I have been following the veins of the leaf (generally), to make depth and creasing easy. Am I going about it in a good way?

Thanks for your assistance.

symmetry isn’t a must. To keep good geometry just follow the form of whatever you’re modeling. Following the veins and how they branch off is actually on key.

Thank You, your answer was very helpful.
