Hello all of you know I am new here considering my posts and my artwork so I’ll cut to the chase. I have started(or at least tried) a project to model star fox in a desert valley. He usually doesn’t look that cool so I decided I wanted to give him a new look. Now number one I am only 12 and have been blending for about half a year maybe a quarter so. I was hoping maybe you guys could give me some tips. Right now I really haven’t started anything so when I get something even cruddy made i’ll post so you guys can crit and I can fix. If you guys could that would be great. Oh and my first little problem is how in the world am I going to model starfox without some good image support. I tried using nurbs to trace and just got confused. If you have any tips that would be great.
Try a couple of the easier tutorials first before you jump into a big project and get frustrated from the beginning. Here is a link to one but there are a lot more on the the wiki.
Good luck.
Well I can pretty much do all that it is just doing that and not messing it up. I also need help with lighting though if you could give me one on lighting that would be great. I suck at lighting.
You can always render with Sunflow or such that have very good lighting.
I think i’ll try that!
hi im also 13 (not 12) and have been using blender for about half a year to and i would say use multires and box modeling for organic people such as star fox and look hard on the net and use mirror when modeling and ya… ull probly have to like um… i dono like just look at pics not to really trace it cuz theres no good ref pics of fox
The best thing to do would be to read/try a good face tutorial, and use the things you learn to attempt the same with starfox. or better yet, find a whole character tutorial.
for reference material (is that what you were referring to when you said “image support”?) Google image search turns up good results. I found fairly acceptable front and side views with a quick search:

Sorry I haven’t done anything I said I would. I have been working on my website and school. I am starting my game with my friend and I just completely forgot. I am starting a new project now though. I want to make a poster for my game. Anyway its a futuristic soldier. I have a new post so. Again sorry.
hey, im 12 as well, i got into blender a few weeks ago, my advice is too work on the tutorials first like on the wikibooks, and then if something inspires you,go for it
link to wikibook- http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro#Learn_to_Model
sry jus read the first post-
i think its good that ur goin for own game, but i think u should get some more people to help u, 2 people arent gonna make such a succecful 3d game soon, it’ll take a long time
im 14! i win!
Ya well, I’m 15, and I’ve been using blender for 4 years! (I must admit your posts are much better than mine when I was your age:o). Don’t use your age as a reason to “not being as good”, it’s just a digit, and doesn’t limit your abilities at all.
Some general suggestions…plan what you’re going to do. Don’t just jump into blender and start modeling. Take the time to sketch a layout of your scene, and maybe even a couple reference pictures. Then you can search around for some reference pictures, and start modeling it up, getting the lighting, ect.
Having a layout really helps in bigger kind of projects, so you should try getting used to making one up, and using it.
Good luck! If you happen to have any questions about the game engine, give me a pm, I know a whole lot about it
