Noob Question About Glossy Shader

What exactly is the difference between the distribution values for the Cycles Glossy Shader? GGX, Beckmann, Ashikhmin-Shirley…what makes them different from each other and why does it matter? I’ve been using Blender for little over two years and I really want to deepen my understanding, especially in regards to Cycles materials.

It is essentially the algorithm used to calculate where the glossy should be, each type of Glossy will look different, and it depends on personal preference and all are considered good in their own way.
