noob question: why is my character inside out?

I parent the armature to my mesh, do some weight painting and

i press P to play and my character is inside out?!?

any ideas?

Maybe normal direction is wrong?
Select faces in Edit mode, press w, flip normal

You can also select the offending faces and press Ctrl-N to calculate the normals automatically, though this doesn’t always work perfectly. However, if there are faces that are still off, you can use dokinkon’s ‘W + Flip Normal’ method (this is Blender 2.5, by the way).
