noob question

how can i raytrace?

hit the button labelled ‘ray’ in render buttons, and if you want your materials to be 'ray’flective, of refract, you have to also set it in materials. If you want raytraced shadows, you must set your lamp to ‘ray shadow’ in lamp buttons. Also you would have to have ‘shadow’ pressed in render buttons.

saweet, thanks modron!

but what exactly does it do…lol

because i did it and it didnt look any different

Well, it allows you to do various stuff. It makes really accurate reflections quite easily, makes transparent shadows ( if you set your recieving material to trashad ) translucency, refraction,…good for glass, water, certain lighting setups, anything reflective or refractive.

aaaah, thx
