Noobie help.

Several questions I haven’t been able to find the answers for.

In the Star Trek scene I’m making for practice I’m trying to get a phaser effect, anyone know a tutorial or something that would help with this?

How do you get an object to glow?

How do you get an object to spawn at a certain frame?

Under the material settings, there is an ‘Emit’ slider = the more you slide up, the more it glows. Not sure what you mean by ‘spawning’, but guess you can animate anything, right? Have fun!

Thanks!

For an example of what I meant by spawn: Frame 1 there’s a cube, frame 2 I create a sphere to go along with it. At the moment it seems any new item I create is created in frame 1 (no matter what frame I’m looking at). :-?

Another question is how to make an object invisible for certain frames (this would solve the other problem I had with spawning too) and how I make an object invisible to begin with. I haven’t searched around though for this, I’m sure it’s in a tutorial or something somewhere.

The frame in which you add an object has no effect on animation. You can use keyframing along with IPO curves to “spawn” objects.

You should split your screen (MMB [middle mouse button] on the seam between the windows and click Split Screen. Then click where you want the split to go (you can move it any time)). Change the new screen to an IPO window by clicking the little drop down icon, probably located in the lower left corner of the window’s tool bar, and selecting IPO Curve Editor from the list.

Anytime you add a keyframe to an object, it will show up here. To make an object appear you could effect its Layer or Alpha values.

If you need any specifics on this, just ask.
