Normal Baking setup takes MUCH longer now without Blender Render in 2.80

Am I doing something wrong here? Have followed the process in this video Video Link in 2.80 and finding that it takes longer everytime to do the following

Add a material to the object
Create a new texture in the UV Editor
Open the shader editor
Create a Texture Image node
(in my case) create a Normal Map node
Plug all the nodes in together
Setup the baking configuration to Normal map etc
Click bake and pray that no Spline Curves are included in the selection (which causes it to crash often)

**Whereas in Blender 2.79 the process was this when using Blender Render - **

Create a new texture in the UV Editor with the baking low poly object in edit mode
Setup the baking configuration to Normal map etc
Click bake

I’m going to find myself sticking to 2.79 more than 2.80 until there is some way of removing all those steps from normal map baking, it takes much much longer to get the same result in 2.80.
Please do tell me if I’m doing something wrong but I’m sure I’m not!
