Normal map baking strange render order


I intend to use Blender as part of my toolchain for making various materials for use in real time 3D application/games. During some brief experimenting I noticed a problem with overlapping surfaces apparantly being rendered in reverse order?

Camera is an orthographic camera above the mesh. Notice how the parts of the cone below the zigzag shape are rendered instead of the parts above. Why is this happening?

Try changing the Distance value (default is zero).
