Hi There, can someone please help me with this. I’m learning about normal map baking and have has some success but this model of a cupboard door handle is not showing the normal map I created. I’ll try to give as much detail as possible.
I’ve created both hi and lo res models, Uv unwrapped and baked the normal map…
Anthony,
I’ve taken a look at your blend file and map (I tried to do my own but I don’t know much of anything about baking maps), and it looks mostly fine from what I can see. I threw a sun lamp in the scene and rotated it around to create some shadows in my geometry to get a better idea of what the normals are doing, and for the most part, it looks like they’re doing exactly as they should, which is to smooth out and flatten the front and back of the handle.
I did notice a few artifacts in your map, which were I think the ones that you were talking about in your first post:

Those are being caused by weird anomalies in some corners/edges of your map. I don’t happen to know how those are happening, they might be bugs or user error.
Here’s one example of a “discoloration” (one of those weird normals) that’s causing those artifacts to happen on your object:

And when you switch to a rendered view with the normal map applied, you can see what that anomaly is really doing:

I can’t say I know exactly why those are happening, but my shot in the dark would be either a UV mapping issue or an issue with the baking (maybe the cage/other object). Good luck!
