normal map question

Where might i find the glsl code for the game engine normal maps. I would like to edit or add parallax support, or at the very least add some intensity to the normal maps. They look so flat right now with maximum values.

If its hard coded, how does one go about adding glsl code into the new blender 2.48 is it the same as previous version?

anyone know of a good simple fur shader?
