normal mapping a material node in BGE

i have been able to do the normal mapping to make the image standout in the regular texture layering technique. what i was wondering was it possible to do the same thing in the node? im trying to make things like bark on the tree or cobbles on the street standout.

is it basically i just make a material node use the layering for that node then apply it to the tree?

i have tried the geo/tex/material to no avail.

if someone to put a blend with a simple thing like a brick wall and sohowing the tree that would help me wrop my tiny little brain around it all
