normal maps

is it jsut me, or does blender’s bumpmapping seem overshadowed by those of other programs? whenever a freind of mine gives me the textures he used to make a nice image in 3dsmax (rich lucky bstrd) the bumpmaps come out kinda ugly in blender. is there a remedy to this?

a pythonscript

first: blender doesn’t support 16 bit textures [so displacement maps from zbrush are nearly useless]

second: are you speaking about normal maps? if so, blender currently supports only object space ones, tangent space ones [they’re blue] don’t work. Also, to use a normal map you need to press the button in the texture buttons where you loaded the image

ah sorry, wrong word, i meant black and white bumpmaps. sorry about the mixup. they just dont look very good…
