Normals will not recalculate

So I’m 1 minute into modeling a generic robot head and I turn “smooth” on and get a normals glitch. I hit recalculate. Blender recalculates but that just shifts the glitch to another place on the mesh. Anyone care to take a look?

You have internal faces where the round part connects to the part sticking out of it. This is resulting in some edges connecting to 3 faces which will cause the normals to act a bit strange. Remove those faces and recalculate normals again.
