northic ocean

made this one in blender, no other applications included, cycles, simple ocean modifier which was then scattered across a plane on its vertices using particle instancing, ice mountains: displacement with a cloud map on it, volume scatter as atmospherics.

rendertime: 1920x1080 one hour

feedback would be great

Nice! Good cold atmpsphere. Maybe water could be little bit more glass and transparent. Well done.

the mountains dont feel right. I can’t pin point exactly what so I would advice to take a look at a reference image. The one thing I find strange is that we can see several highlight areas, I would assume the shadow part to be more uniform because of the distance, also I would advice a small haze over the edge of the horizon of the water to add depth to it.

Ocean looks good enough.

thanx for fast replies! i agree Kilon, i didnt put much time on the mountains though, and i too find it strange the little higlighted island to the left, has to be some distance confusement, but cycles is a physical correct render, and i didnt set any shadow or ray overide besides the ocean to cast shadow on the seabottom

another render, wanted to test out using volume absorption on the ocean tiles for the depth effect,
