Not-so-syymmetric model: What the heck happened here?

Hi guys!

I built an edges-only mesh, starting with a plane and reducing the vertices to a single vertex. Then I modeled a basic human-like shape using the mirror modifier. Then applied a skin modifier. And this happened:

The first dread man with skin worked fine, this one somehow does not. Any suggestions?

But another aspect is interesting: Vertices can have different skin thckness – how can I purposefully make use of it?

In Edit Mode, Mesh > Cleanup > Merge by Distance solved the problem: Duplicates did weird things there ::laughing:
