silversmith basicly means i deal mainly with flatware and holloware and less with jewelry. goldsmith is jewelry. but this are traditional descriptions.

i was actualy talking mainly about the alloys. you never use pure gold. it is too soft. thats the same with silver. fine silver is too soft for anything.

actualy my area is not chemistry but metallurgy. ok i have a lot of chemistry as well because of all the acids i work with. but working with metal, melting, fusing, soldering, and forming basicly deals with the crystal structure of the metal and metal bonding.

for example when you solder two silver sheets together with silversolder, the silversolder disolves into the silver on a microscopic level and thus holds both sheets together.
