nurbs

Hi, I started working on this tutorial http://vc.bc.ca/~kingsland/blender/tutorials/nurbs/Blender%20tutorial%20Fun%20with%20nurbs.htm
but when I join the nurbs then go into edit mode and hit [crtl] F I get an error saying “can’t make segment” What am I doing wrong?

hu i had the same problem

well blenders nurbs tools arent the best.

since blender has a pretty good subdiv surface system
i would just think about to switch to that instead of using
nurbs.

sicne blender has no trimsurfaces projections etc. the nurbs is more a
sketch tool than a real modeling tool here.

but i would like to why make segments do not work on my latest blender release as well.

You made sure to add Surface->Curve and not Curve->Nurb, right?

After you joined the curves with CTL-J, tab into edit mode. Did you select all the verts with AKEY? You will get the “can’t make segment” error if the verts aren’t selected.

This works in blender 2.28a

darn surface - curve worked.

ok where is the difference between Surface->Curve and Curve->Nurb.

eicke

Curve -> NURBS are 2D curves that can be beveled with a bevel object or that can serve as extrusion profile for an object (using the Ext1 and Ext2 parameter).

Martin

You also might want to try using C to close the curve if F isn’t working. I’ve run into that before.

hi teeth

ok that is pretty confusiong imo.

should there better be only a button to check/uncheck to make a curve 2d/3d?

ok is than nurbs > curve the same like path? or is the path a different curve on its own? i saw that nurbs>curve only has the 3d button unchecked.

anyway why are there two different curves (nurbs/surface)?

for the path curve the black perpendicular lines do they reflect somehow a progressof animation through the time like in flash or director?

claas

I think you’re mistaking loftable with 3D here. Curve and Surface objects do not have the same functions and use. Making a Curve 3D doesn’t make it a Surface.

ok is than nurbs > curve the same like path? or is the path a different curve on its own? i saw that nurbs>curve only has the 3d button unchecked.

The only difference between a Curve -> Path and Curve -> NURBS is that Path has the 3D option and the CurvePath option turned on by default.

anyway why are there two different curves (nurbs/surface)?

Because both have very different use, like I said in my previous post.

for the path curve the black perpendicular lines do they reflect somehow a progress of animation through the time like in flash or director?

The space between each line represents the same time interval on the path.

Martin

oops, I pressed add curve not surface. thanks
