NV22 13-14: Dreamcrafters' Homeworld

My personal challenge this time was to create a fully procedural fantasy planet in cycles. It ended up being a lot tougher than I expected! Not to mention the super slow render times you get when you’re working with volumes.

The shaders are loosely based off Samuel Krug’s youtube tutorials. He has some pretty neat stuff, you should check him out!

Oftentimes, this kind of project is done using image textures, but it’s nodevember, so naturally I had to create everything procedurally.

The geometry nodes setup is incredibly simple:

The shader nodes? Not so much…

In the end, it was a great learning experience. I’m definitely looking forward to doing more planet renders when nodevember is over.

I think this might be the best procedural planet I’ve ever seen. Truly incredible work!

Thanks a lot! I think there’s a lot of room for improvement, but I’m looking forward to revisiting the theme in the future.

Thanks! His tutorials can be difficult to follow and rather unstructured, but they’re quite rewarding when you get the hang of it.
