I’m putting together a system which will not be exlusively used for 3D work exclusively, but rather will be running some games as well. As such, I decided to go with something having good DX compatibility and came up with this. Does anyone have experience or opinions about this card? I’d like to know about any major defects if possible. I know about the fan trouble already, I think it may have been fixed.

Why a top-of-the-line card
you said “GOOD” directX support, and the newer cards are nothing to sneeze at.
personally I am cheap, hence my suggestion: go for an older geforce unless you want to run doom III at the higher settings in which case wait for doom III to come out.
Really off topic, but anyone know when there’s gonna make a game with the Doom III engine? (I mean, other than that big demo they call game).

Actually, they ARE working on Doom3…The Release date is around January 2004…
I too had my eye on a GF FX card but was discuraged after reading this.
I think I’ll hold on to my $ until they have fixed it!
theeth: I belive ID software’s common statement is “Released when done!”. Anyway, i haven’t seen any date out there yet.
activision is thinking Q4 2003 (march 2004), which seems about with my predictions. (still not sure though)
Quake IV will use the Doom III engine. This has been known for over a year.
