OBJ Model filling with missing faces/vertices

I have an imported OBJ that has many facets missing. I am aware of methods to manually select the vertices and fill in the missing facets, but for a large file this can be very time consuming Is there any built in blender tool or more automated script that could be generated to fill in the holes and generate the missing faces from existing vertices? Please see the attached screen shot below.


No, there is no automated way of filling those tiny gaps.

A possible, but an unsafe method of connecting them is to remove doubles. You can select isolated vertices and then set the threshold up for removing doubles. This could probably damage structure, but if that didn’t matter then this could work in isolated areas. Not exactly the traditional solution.
