i appended an object from a file
then tried to edit the object but instead of being yellow inwas orange
what is tht orange and is there any meaning to it ?

Okay, they only time I see orange outlines in Blender is when an object has UV seems. You can still edit the object. The orange just shows where the seems were set. To see examples of this checkout the wiki: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Unwrapping_a_Mesh
