Object to collection

Hi,
I have made a collection with 3 objects. How can I add a new object to this collection. At “move to collection” this collection does not appear. It seem that there are only scene collections shown…

Any idea why?

Thanks for help!

Hi,

Can you please attach the screenshot?

i have a collection called “001”, where the 3 objets are in…

running here 3.4.1 on my small old laptop cause 3.5 does crash at start. maybe a problem of the version

As I see, you have only one collection that goes by the same name, I didn’t see anywhere ''001". Thus, try to create that collection and put your objects into it.

This is the list of all collections you have created:

There goes only one called ‘Collection’

but there is this collection… if i select one object of the three and click shift-g i can select this collection “001”

Are you sure? The combination of Shift+G gives me this one:

yes, and when i select collection here i can see the 001

Well, you probably need to use another way.

Select all of your objects, RMB, in an opened pop-up select ‘Move to collection’, in a second pop-up you will have to choose, to drop it in an existing collection or create a new one.

All of your collections can be found in an outliner:

They are the folders

You probably did it in the wrong way. You have selected your collection (if it exists), not created one.

Here’s a good tutorial that explains how to create and work with collections.

so there must be a collection, but no scene collection… i look the video you postet now…

Could you please share you blend file?

groups.blend (1003.6 KB)

groups.blend (998.7 KB)

I was playing around but could not recreate it… if you have an orphaned collection… then this appears in some selection menu… looking into your filr you have one called 001 and one called 001.001

I suppose you can manage un-linked collection through Outliner > Blender File
Drag and drop objects to move them. Holding Ctrl while dragging seems to link an object with un-linking it from previous collection…

ok, i can see it also in the outliner if i select “orphan data”…but it says that these data will be lost by reloading…but this is not the case…

thanks,i know how to make new scene collections, thats not the problem. the question is what did i make? you can recreate this orphan thing if you make some objects, pick them together then strg-G “create new collection”, name it…and NOW if you select one object, ctrl-G “select grouped”, pick collection…then you can find this group here…

so i thought this is intended to work like this…

I think, everything that is un-linked ends up in Orphan Data. It is lost only if it’s unprotected as well (if “shield icon” disabled). Un-linked Collections seem to be protected by default :person_shrugging:
