Objects don't display or render properly at distance

Hello all,

I’m not sure if this is the correct forum as I seem to have a camera issue, but this one seemed to be the closest to the subject. I’m having a bit of a problem with a long shot. The camera travels from 1300 units from the focus with a focal length of 3000 to 15 units with focal length of 35. The camera tracks to a focus empty which is placed 25 units in front of the background. During the travel, faces on many objects disappear on some frames causing a nasty flicker. This appears in both solid views and BI render, see videos. I’ve done quite a bit of fruitless searching so I’m rather hoping someone here can advise me on what causes this effect and, other than moving the camera closer & faking the distance, what I can do about it.

Most likely an inadequate Z buffer precision. Try increasing clipping start value for the camera to something more appropriate, like 10.
