Sorry if this is too easy a question, as it’s not obvious to me.
When I create a new object, the center point never seems to be in the center. I’ll select the object and the orange center point is out in the boondocks.
To not have this problem… I’m assuming it has something to do with the location of the 3D cursor when I’m creating new objects?
Also, I’m drawing some shapes in Illustrator, exporting to SVG, and importing into Blender. It works great, but I’m still getting the center point issue… but that’s not my main question. I’ve drawn out a keyboard consisting of many keys… how can I make that one object, as of now it’s many.
Objects are added to your scene at the location of the curser. This will be the location of the objects origin (large dot). Di you add your object in edit mode ?. This will append the new mesh to the currently active mesh which will maintain its current origin. Add new objects while in object mode to create a new independent object.
You can join multiple objects together by selecting all the ones you want to join then press Ctrl+J to join them
Is it possible to cut objects and paste them? So I want to cut the objects I placed in Object mode and then go into Edit Mode and Paste… or I suppose I could re-import… but I was wondering since this would be helpful in the future.
Per my first question (which has the attachment showing)… the keyboard vector graphics I created where unable to be imported at the Edit level, even when I go into Edit mode and import it automatically takes me back into object mode… where each key is a separate object.
I was wondering if I could select each key and collapse/expand/whatever the word be into a single object.
OK I think I figured it out. It’s almost exactly like Adobe Flash.
I imported the SVG vector in, only allows object mode… I ran the “Join” command to make them all one object. I then went into Edit mode and used Grab to roughly make the center point more centered (wasn’t sure if there was an easier way to do this). So importing doesn’t make the center point in the center.
I then converted the Curves into a Mesh and I was able to Extrude, which was my intention.
You can adjust the center point of an object to be centered to the geometry of the surrounding box in object mode:
Another method would be to snap the 3D- cursor in edit mode to any vertex or whatever is defining you objects center with Shift-s. Then switch back to object mode and use the 'Origin to 3D Cursor" option in the Transform-menu to transform the origin point to snap to the 3D-cursor.
