Hi cekuhnen, the workflow in Blender Octane is the same as with Cycles.
You could reach all settings/features from Octane directly in Blender (Not all in Beta! :)), no export anymore.
I got Blender Octane as a gift from Otoy for Alpha testing and bug reports but would buy it for 99 € anyway.
I am sure that through the plug-in you can address many options of Octane.
What I tried to say is owning Octane and having to pay another 99$ just for using it as a plug-in with Blender is beyond the scope for me simply because compared to before Cycles alone provides an incredible speed boost to me. And with online render farms also large commercial projects are not an issue of time for me anymore.
But I am happy how Octane matures and provides another quality product for Blender.
Long way to go but here is one of my test…
This will also be the next mesh for my next UV displacement mutations explorations
Here is a cycles render (it could be better setup as well)…
I got octane about 2 years ago because the devs said that they will develop a blender plugin. However time will tell how good it actually is. Octane often sucumbs to time pressure.
