Spent a couple of hours on this last night and, as a relative novice to sculpting, I was blown away. Reminds me of sculptris in that it lowers the barrier to entry for digital sculpting with a really simple, intuitive interface but the major eye opener was the 3-d perspective - sculpting in VR is so much easier (for me at least) than on a flat screen. I feel like I upped my sculpting game 10 fold in the space of a night. I can get the kind of results that normally take an hour or more, in 10-15mins.
I think from here in I’ll be design sculpting in Medium, then import into blender for retopo and whatnot.
I tried this just yesterday, and I found the tools pretty amazing. I’ve mostly used Blender for conversions and baking, to me it has quite the learning curve, but I would love to use these tools together. When I imported the exported .obj it looked anything but fine though, shape was right but normals and material looked wonky. Have you had success moving models from Medium to Blender?
There’s a thread on the oculus forums on using meshtools to clean up the medium export but I haven’t tried that yet. According to the devs, they’re working on a point release that produces better geometry straight from medium. As it stands right now there’s a lot of teething issues but, even then, I’m having a hell of a lot of fun with it.
