odd game render artifacts

This probably isn’t the best place to ask this, but i know a lot of you can probably help me. (the games forums are populated by the typical MMO retards) here is the problem:

the odd lined artifacts in the background are where the water plane in the game come into contact with the normal terrain (its the shore  ). for whatever reason it is producing an odd effect. this also happens with other objects as well that intersect each other.

i have come across this problem in a couple other games as well in the past, although i have found no solution. I have a geforce FX5200, and nHancer installed (i cant seem to find any setting in there that would fix this, though)

any tips? hints? i know there has to be a name for this problem, google isnt very helpful though. thanks.

You might need a newer graphics card to render the reflection shader.

in the game prefrences, look for the water settings, and turn off reflection and refraction.

what mmo is that? looks like they are fighting a vicious antelope. Korean MMO’s crack me up they way they make the players prove thier manhood by going around in the woods killing small defenseless animals.

I have the water shader effect turned off, but this problem is not limited to water; it happens with any other intersecting objects as well.

The game is called “Shaiya”, and it seems to be pretty much a generic Korean hack n slash so far. Just trying it out to kill some time.

it is called Z fighting, it usually happens when there are 2 planes occupying the same place at the same time, with different textures on each.

excellent, thanks. looks like a remedy will be hard to find, but at least i know what it is called now. :o

You might want to make the water plane just above the terrain at the area of the arifact and then sharply curve it down.

It happens once a lot of people start using a game engine, sorry, but that is the truth.
