Odd Halo Behavior

Hello, I am having an issue when rendering a scene containing some spheres with a halo material. Here is a render of the problem:

The hills in the background are behind the black spheres but are rendering as though they are in front, for some reason.

Anyone have any ideas?

Do the spheres have a texture? Or are you using render composite nodes?

Sorry for taking so long to reply. No, they don’t have a texture, and I’m not using any nodes.

The sphere on the right looks as if it’s casting a shadow over the hills. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. Can you upload the file? I’ll try to take a look at it.

That shadow is actually from the hill itself.

Here is the file–the spheres are not the same as in the image because I’ve messed with the file a bit since then, but the problem is still there. Thanks for the effort.

Okay, I’ve been playing around with it, and if you select the material of the sphere and check the Flare box then the grass doesn’t ‘overlap’ the sphere. Or at least that’s how it works for me.
