I feel like I have tried. Used Clean Up , clean up tools, different views in Outliner. I can’t Select these elements, I can’t delete them as Vert, Edges, Faces, yet yet are “Highlighted” in the viewport suggesting that they are selected. I don’t know when they showed up. I have been working on and using a file with incremental saves for awhile. I have run out of mu understanding, perhaps someone else can help. They kind of look like “Bones” in stick display mode, which is my current preferred bone display mode. Any help is welcome.
Thank you

They look like annotations, you can delete them by going into timeline, pulling the left menu out if it’s not, then opening the summary, and under scene channels there should be annotations, under it note channel. You can click the channel and press x to delete it.
I had not thought of this choice, and will investigate it in the morning on the troubled file.
I was able to achieve a work-around. I opened a new file, then appended the Collections into the scene. Some adjustment after the fact, but the three mysterious butted lines are not present. I had not worked with annotations, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t inadvertently trigger their appearance. Thanks for the idea.
Wasn’t able to track down this ‘apparition’ in annotations, and found that appending the Collections into a new file, “fixed” the problem. . . . It will remain a mystery.
