Can anyone tell me why my display’s going odd on this please?
made a mask/hood mesh, and then created an octagonal shape to make eyelets to lace up at the back. i projected them onto the hood using Shrinkwrap and extruded them out a bit etc, and being happy w/ it i merged the meshes. the hood has a subsurf and mirror, and though it looks ok in the solid view (left window) the render view (right panel) is not displaying the subsurf effect to the eyelets. oddly, it’s the left side of the figure not working, and that’s the side i have actually modelled and applied the Mirror to.
The first rule of problem solving is you need to simplify your scene, get rid of the uneccessary crap.
Looking at the outliner, you have objects visible in the 3d but not rendered and objects that are rendered but not visible in the 3d view. Are you really seeing only what you want to see ? Delete everything apart from this one mesh and a light. so you can have a clear understanding of what you are seeing
ack, that was the right path : i had a copy of the eyelets saved off in case i needed to change anything, they were on their own level w/ no subsurf and i hadn’t clicked the “render camera” icon off, so it was rendering above the merged/subsurfed one.
