But Ignorance is Bliss, no?(he seems happy enough…)

Any crits and comments welcome. Please vote as you see fit, and dont hesitate to ask questions. This piece was more focused on visual quality than comedic value(as in comparison to ‘The New Guy’)But, let me know what you think in that department as well
Peace all
Drew
PS: Pure Blender 2.43(CVS build) with exception of adding my logo etc

lol, thanks bro, I try, right?
great to hear form you.

I don’t know if you got a website, but this piece along with your previous work could work as an awesome website theme. Cool composition.

Thanks man. I dont actually have a site up yet, been working to get one though…

u try alright…and u get better everyday…y cant i do that……

For some odd reason it cracks me up. Cause he’s all like ‘Hi!’ and they’re all like ‘OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH teh NOOOOOEEEEEES’

It does, in fact, look pretty darn good, A couple things though. 1. Your floor texture is nice, but you’ll notice that as it travels away from the camera it gets a pretty wicked OSA problem. I’d recommend one of two things, one turn up the sample value of your global OSA, or two, turn down the amount of OSA your floor texture receives. (in the image tab)

  1. Your ambient occlusion is suffering from a little extra noise, this can be solved by a couple sampling levels, but THIS is not the main problem, noise never hurt anyone, what your problem is is the AO itself. Look in the background, see how the the AO goes about a foot up the wall and then just stops there? That really kills the believability of the lighting, here’s a trick:

I’m assuming your AO distance is at 10, turn it up to 20 or 30 until it’s a lot bigger, then, turn on ‘use distances’ and slowly start tweaking up the distf property to attenuate the fall-off of the shadow. You can nice blended effects with this, assuming your AO is just set to plain and isn’t using colour.

Haha! Nice One free_ality! I love the way the curtains part to bring in the light. And as BlackBoe mentioned, it has a funny feel how one is happy but no one else is.

Cuby

I dunno. It’s nicely rendered but the concept is pure boring3d.com. So no points for originality.

love it. Can we have a bigger pic though?

—Shamem

nice…

its very strange that all this happens inside someones house. i like that.

one thing that doesnt really fit, is that most of the box-guys are facing this way… and now looking at the newcomer. also, i don’t get it why many of them look like falling down.

and, i agree on the boring3dness…

lots 'o comments
@Blackboe: Thanks man  About the osa thing, I cant see it(explain a bit?), as for the AO tip, thanks, very useful
@Cuby: Glad you like it
@mongrel: Im happy you like the render. As for the boringsd-ness, I agree it may be in a similar style(but there are many pieces in such a style), but I didnt steal the concept(as far as I know). If there is such a piece, please direct me to it. Wasnt trying to rip Mr. Maidens off…
@Shamem: Sure…Maybe later tonight, I will get a bigger one up tho
@Basse: Cool to hear from you. Thanks.
As for the way the boxes are facing…Like, it looks like their turning? I guess they kind of are…oops  As for the fallen guys, the idea was they spazzed out and fainted or something.

Thanks everybody for the comments and good votes. Im still open to crits and comments.

Thanks again
Drew

I mean the texture gets muzzier the more sharp the angle away from the camera is, these are mip map problems.

You have a great eye for lighting. Maybe this one could use a bit more light though. I would like to see a bit more of the little guys in the foreground here. They get lost in the darkness.

BgDM

I agree with BgDM.

You’ve found a great style!
Good work !

@BgDM: Thanks! I actually have the original version somewhere…
aha

Which is a bit lighter, but it struck me as a bit too happy. I originally did have more light on the small guys, but that was taken down for the comped version(one in the first post). I also had many more box dudes, but…
It pushed the render times up a lot(not too much of a problem) and the GUI lag was really turning into a pain(literally ten seconds).
@Ahuri: Thanks man  I enjoy this style immensely.
