I am a Blender user and also a user of HarmonyOS devices. I’m posting today to discuss the possibility of Blender adapting to HarmonyOS and to express the keen anticipation of HarmonyOS users like myself.
I. Background
As we all know, the Blender Foundation launched the “Blender for Tablets” initiative in 2025, aiming to provide native support for tablets such as iPad Pro, Microsoft Surface, Huawei MatePad, and Wacom MovinkPad. Although Huawei MatePad was explicitly mentioned in the official announcement, it did not directly specify whether the adaptation targets HarmonyOS or Android. However, judging from various indications, domestic users generally expect a native HarmonyOS version.
II. Progress and Current Status
Beyond the official efforts, there has been exciting progress within the community. Bilibili content creator “依言Eyan” has successfully ported Blender to HarmonyOS and released a demonstration video in May 2026. This proves the technical feasibility of running Blender on HarmonyOS. However, it should be noted that this is an early experimental build developed by an individual. It currently suffers from missing features, instability, and crashes (for example, clicking “Save” will cause the program to crash). The creator has also indicated that they will organize the code and open-source it in the future, inviting other developers to help improve it.
III. Our Expectations
As Blender users and supporters of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, we would very much like the official team to:
Provide a clear response: Is there a plan to offer native support for HarmonyOS?
Offer a timeline: If there is a plan, what is the general timeline?
Collaborate with the community: Would you consider working with community developers who have already completed a port to accelerate the release of an official version?
IV. Conclusion
The number of HarmonyOS devices is growing rapidly, and the creator community is expanding alongside it. As the leading open-source 3D creation tool, if Blender could natively support HarmonyOS, it would be a win-win situation for both the expansion of the Blender community and the improvement of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
We hope the official team will hear our voices, and we welcome everyone interested in this topic to join the discussion!
Subject: Re: Official Attention Requested: The Demand and Expectation for Blender to Adapt to HarmonyOS
Thank you for your honest and valuable advice. I really appreciate it.
Looking back at my original post, I realize that some of my wording did come across as too demanding or pushy. That was never my intention — I’m just a regular user who is passionate about both Blender and the HarmonyOS ecosystem, and I got a bit carried away while expressing my hope for future support.
What I truly mean to express is a sincere invitation and respectful request for the official team to consider the possibility, rather than a demand or expectation. I completely understand that open-source development relies on voluntary contributions, and no one owes us anything.
Thank you again for the reminder. I genuinely hope this discussion can move forward in a positive and collaborative direction.
I’m not related to BF so I’m just another user looking at that from a distance…
I think the first goal was to work on ipads, then they switch to android, and I’m not sure of the current plan. Eventually given there is enough community interest and the first version went well, I’m sure they’ll try to support common OS.
I don’t think it’s advanced enough to expect a timeline though, in general there is the optimistic timeline and in reality things tend to get out when they are ready. Any schedule at this stage is theoretical and prone to user’s frustration.
I think they’ll welcome any contribution given they comply with the source code quality and style of blender. People should get in touch with developers to see if they can make a joined effort.
Well there are a few developpers coming here sometime but it’s not the best place to seek this kind of answers, you can try devtalk and before make sure you read all the related development / design post because maybe the answers are already there !
Thank you very much for your reply! I’m actually quite new to this community and not yet very familiar with Blender’s development process. Your suggestion to check out Devtalk and read through the relevant posts first is really helpful – I’ll definitely do that. I hope we can all witness the growth of this project together!
Cool !
I think you’re approaching it with the right mindset ! Generally there is a lot of communication around development, but they can’t address every individual questions, and they are kinda stuck between trying to provide answers or general plans but since stuff evolves as the projects are developing things are moving a lot. Targets are eventually met but there is generally some delays.
You can start reading those :
I didn’t give a close look but at first glance they are working on android :
And at this stage it’s probably pointless to support more as the UI and probably other things are still ironed out.
Once the Android works, supporting more seems like the appropriate move since at least the goal is to have multiple platforms. IDK about harmony OS but if it’s widely used and someone is willing to work on it, then it’s very likely that it will be supported eventually.
If it’s a niche thing with no-one to work on that, it might be too much of an effort to support and the energy might be better spend elsewhere. But IMO at this stage they might have wish but it’s too early to talk timeline or concrete goal beside what they’re working currently !
