I gave a demo to the Maya 3D modeling class last semester
and today while i spoke with my college who is teaching that
maya class she told me students do not want to uv unwrap
in maya anymore.
they want to use Blender for it.
they just want to keep modeling in maya. well …
but still it is funny to see that beginner 3d students find blender
uv much easier to use.
Really, if they’re wanting to use Blender for UV map, they might as well use Blender for everything. Especially when modeling is much faster in Blender.
I thought the LCSM thing for Maya was taken off the board due to licensing problems (can’t use GPL code that links to proprietary code). Very cool though.
we are discussing to use Blender as a main application as well.
not all students will go to the PIXAR dream or have access to maya
after they are finished. further more is this 3d program here rather small
because it is part of multimedia they also focus on other areas beside
only animation and this enables me to promote Blender more.
Today it is a good program with a lot of tools the students would use here.
A lot of what Maya offers most would never touch.
I am right now looking into how Mayas mentalray will work with blender
Opps that’s my fault. The offending files are removed permanently now. I’d only hidden the front page of my website and not it’s contents.
Why can’t can’t the students learn certain features of both packages? It’s dead easy to go from one to the other via .obj. I do it all the time. Though I confess not being able to redefine hotkeys in Blender slows me down a bit.
