Oil/Water color paint program??

I am trying to find an open source paint program that makes images look like I have used watercolor or oil paints to create the image. Even fingerpainting would be great. I have searched sourforge.net but it’s a bit difficult to sort through all of that for specific features. Does anyone know of a program that would let me do this? If Gimp can, I have yet to figure out how.

Krita has basic watercolors painting features (still being developed and getting better). You can also paint with the oilpaint filter (gives you a little bit more creative freedom than just using the oilify filter in the gimp).

Of course you can fake it in the gimp (here’s the first tut google spat out), But currently nothing comes close to Artrage & Painter.

Sadly there is no opensource program ther (yet). Krita has plans to develope these features, but only simple watercolor effects can be archieved for example.

I guess you know of the expensive programs like Painter, Sketchbook…

But what effect do you want to archieve? Oil and Aquarell are quite different media and so looks what you do with them. I am able to draw similar to photoshop with the gimp (well slower and MUCH more uncomfortable) and my tablet.

I second ArtRage. It’s really nice and will export layered images in PSD format. The last time I checked, it worked great in Wine on Linux, but I can’t run Wine anymore so I really don’t know.

You could probably get an old version of Paint shop pro for a decent price. I have PSP 7 myself and it has a brush stroke filter that can do this with a variety of parameters.

I was looking closely at the textures made for Zelda: Windwaker, and they all appear to be “painted” or smeared fingerpainting. I am looking to do some texture work and wanted to mimic a style with the same feel.
