old rocket launcher *updated*

recently it seems ive been starting loads of projects that i will never be able to finish with at my level as ive not had much experience with blender or any other modeling software.

so i decided to start on something a little simpler, hopefully it will go in a little war scene

also how can i get rid of those horrible lines ive tried set smooth and that subdivision thing.

cheers

Try using a subsurf after you set smooth.

great modle so far. to get rid of the lines, you need to hit “set smoot” the go into edit mode, and select all polygons, and hit “control, shift, N” and it should say something like “flip normals inside?” and confirm that. then the lines should be gone. sometimes it helps if you do this while its in subdiv.1

For best results, select all (a) in edit mode and then set smooth, plus flip normals as said above. Subdivision will make it seamless.

cheers guys

The best results are often got by using ‘Set Smooth’ and then putting ‘Auto Smooth’ On. Only angles lower than the number will be smoothed, which means that you keep the shape, but make circular parts smooth.

Subdivision surfaces is more for organic shapes.

ive tried all the obove and i still get those horrible lines :<

have you tried subdividing it this somtimes works…

yeah but it made no difference

Are you in object mode when you hit set smooth? I can’t think what else you’d be doing wrong.

To go into object mode, hit tab, then select the object you want with right click.

The tab key goes back and forth between object mode and edit mode (where you can select the vertices).

subdividing wont work, subsurf should however.

heres an update, still with the horrible lines :frowning:

you get rid of the lines by getting out of edit mode selecting the mesh and turning on autosmooth and clicking set smooth once, in that order however if you have subdevided the mesh too much it will do no good because the angles are too high and your screwed …

Unless you select all the vertex in edit mode and click on the smooth button in the edit vertex button. Modelingkid I use to feel like you, untill I came across a great website that is easy to understand and get straight to the point. Look here, you’re love it. http://www.enricovalenza.com/howto.html

yeh true but using the smooth button messes with your mesh and can cause some really irritating errors so i prefer not to use it

Yup, or he can erase the vertex but one roll and use the spin fuction also in edit mode, then use the subsurf fuction to smooth it out.

thanks al_capone,thats a great site for a noob like me

Glad you like it
