a texture paint attempt. i think I have some issues with the UV map, since painting up the nose also paints other parts.

Could the difference be the eyes? The reference has an extra skin fold created by the eyelid. The eyebrows are slightly higher on the reference, giving a slightly difference facial expression. Also, you haven’t replicated the eye corner on your model.

Outside of those things, I believe you are closer than you think, it just looks incomplete without the hair.

thanks. do you think I need to resculpt and remesh or should I edit the retopo mesh. Not sure how to do the eyelids actually…

yeah I’ll get on with the hair. my hair cap is on top so i can change the rest after

I think you should edit the retopologized version. That’s one of the reasons why you do it, to make a mesh that’s easier to edit. The way I see it, the original voxel remeshed sculpt is not so much for detail, it’s mostly a mold/template used to create the actual base mesh. It’s then much easier to use the cleaned mesh as a starting point for further alterations, getting rid of the lumpy original.

The eye corner should be pretty easy. You just take the edges in the corner and pull them into a pointier shape, freeing a pointy space next to the eye. You can then add an extra small piece of geometry to fill that hole, which you paint a reddish color.

For the fold, you can add an extra edge loop around the eye, in the spot where the fold will be. You can then bevel a section of that edge loop with 2 segments, then arrange the result a bit by dissolving and merging, like in those images. This is a way to add an all-quad wrinkle that subdivides well on any edge of a model.

This messes up my shading and multires modifier. i think i’ll have to just draw a line and remember for the next one

Lol the hair system is a whole new level of chaos. I had to split the hair cap into two mesh islands to get a parting but now its way too big.

I tried using the reference as a background image for the camera to fix the sculpt. its gone to shit and i can’t figure out why the eyelashes arent symmetrical anymore. Feel like giving up on this one. I should have fixed the sculpt at the start. There is a posing system isn’t there?

kept going. Fat hair looks cool

Sculpt 40 . still looking kinda transgender

a bit more masculine now.

Sculpt 41 freehand. better proportions than sculpt 40 for a male head

Sculpt 42. ok start. keeping the focal length high

looking kinda… gaunt?
as far as i can tell all the parts are in the right places. Maybe it will look better textured with some brows and hair

retopology. I didnt get the loops right but i’m not posing this model so I suppose it doesnt matter. Subdivided and shrinkwrapped it looks fine.
