One in a million - not quite happy with it

So, as you might have figured I entered the weekly competition and I would like some critique on my work.

What I already know I want to do is make the big sapphire more luminescent, and perhaps to make the entire image a tad brighter.
But! That’s not what I am looking for, what I want is your opinion of it.

as mentioned in the thread these are my render settings:

Go with your gut. What you know you already what to do is exactly what I want to suggest. The tonal range is really too slim.

If the blue sapphire is emitting, with the black (?) cubes pick it up and bounce and bounce and bounce that blue again as it attenuates? Because THAT would be interesting and you could tweak angles to play on that and maybe kill your computer in the meantime! hehe

But withering blue reflections would be a neat abstract examination.

Ah yes, I actually did some experimentation with the light but couldn’t get a nice amount of reflection, I am considering redoing everything and just keeping the concept, that is after I figure out how to get the effect you mentioned (because it was my original plan ^^; ) just giving the cube an emitter didn’t work, well… might work if I multiply the color as well (going for a bright, shining, sapphire blue color)
