WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRANSLATE VIEW BUTTON?!?
You know…the button with the two perpendicular double arrows…it used to be to the left of the plus-minus zoom button in the older builds. I can’t find this button in blender version 2.30 nor in 2.31. I nedd this functionality. I hope it’s not gone forever.
I just now figured out that to translate (move everything in the 3d window left, right , up,down, or in any direction) in blender2.31 you must do the following:
Hold down the Shift key plus the middle (scroll button) mouse button and move the mouse in the desired direction.
this is not a new feature…have been there as long as I know…
you can swift between “panning” or “rotating” the view in the Preferences window (top bar, Info - buttons) “Views & Controls” so depending what you have of those two…it either pans or rotating while holding shift down and moving with MMB…
so, again…people think they have found new features all along…but as again, we see that this is not a very new feature…pretty old one!!! heh

and while I am at it as well…another Old feature is to push down CTRL and holding down MMB and move the mouse back and fort and you get a zooming feature! Taaadaaaa !!
