OpenExr MultiLayer seems not to work - sometimes. Bug?

I would like to take advantage of the OpenExr MultiLayer Format in order to have the various passes available in the Node Editor. When in the Node Editor, rendering out an Exr-file sequence, adding it as an image input, and switching to the according Render Layer, gives me all the previously ticked passes - perfect so far.
Now I change from Single Image to Image Sequence. The Exr-file is still read, but all the passes vanish and I can’t choose the according Render Layer anymore.

Do I miss something there, or is this a bug?

After some more experimenting:
Having the Image Input Node set up already with the path to the rendered frames, and rerendering the scene animation, makes the render passes appear - strange…

Is this a known issue? Worth a report?

Don’t select all the images of the image sequence. Select the first image, then set the number of frames in the sequence.

Thanks Richard
I tried this out, but it doesn’t seem to solve the problem.
What I do:
After having rendered a couple of Exr (MultiLayer), I go to the Node Editor and add an Image Input Node. I choose (only) the first file.
Now at the bottom of the Node, I switch to the Layer the file was rendered on, and the passes appear.
But as soon as I switch to ‘Image Sequence’, the passes are exchanged with the default ones (Image, Alpha, Z), and the Layer dropdown Menu is emty. ???
Switching back to Single Image doesn’t bring back the Layers and Passes.

Any more ideas?

When you have set it to Image Sequence try changing the frame in the timeline, then reselect the Layer to refresh it.
