Optix denoiser not working on viewport

So i have been having an issue with the optix denoiser, whenever i open a scene it works fine, but after a few minutes when i change to render view the denoiser stops working, i have blender 3.6 using a 4080 with the optix and my card selected in system settings, it just started happening randomly a few weeks back, i have tried changing drivers and reinstaling blender with no results, im wondering if there is a fix for this, is it a bug or a problem with my card?

First of all, check your log crash file. It creates automatically everytime your Blender crashes: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/troubleshooting/crash.html

Second, try another Blender’s version. 3.5 or even 4.0 alpha and see if that helps

Third, sometimes (what helps me in such cases), is when you just have opened your scene, don’t hurry to switch from wireframe/solid to rendered view mode, but switch step-by-step from Wireframe view mode to Solid, then to Material Preview and then to Rendered view mode (wait until each of them will be completely loaded and then only jump to another one).

Fourth, try to turn on Denoiser in another scene, if that works, there might something wrong with that exact scene.

Hope that helps,

Cheers,
Sergey

Hello restore your last driver of your graphic card https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBM5dEg1Rn8

This issue is bugging me quite a bit. I have a 3090, Windows 11. Optix denoising only ever works for awhile before failing (Viewport Denoise remains selected in the Render Properties panel, but it doesn’t work). Sometimes switching directly from X-ray in Solid directly to Rendered shading makes it work again, sometimes switching Render Device in System Preferences to CUDA and back to Optix makes it work again, but only for a bit. I have tried switching step-by-step as suggested by goorman above. I have tried simple scenes, complex scenes, Blender 3.6 and 4.0 and NVIDIA drivers from 536.40 to 546.01. I have tried deleting the Optix cache in \AppData\Local\NVIDIA\OptixCache and reloading render kernels and rebuilding the cache. Nothing helps. What else can I try?

the wireframe - solid - render worked and I am just glad I don’t have to restart blender for the third time in the past hour
