Orienting textures

(Rhysy 2) #1

I have a feeling this question has been asked many, many times already but I’ll ask it anyway…perhaps someone can point me to the right location to solve my problem.

How do I rotate textures I’ve applied to a model ? Specifically, how do I rotate an image that’s been sphericaly mapped to a sphere ?

Add empty to the same place as the object is (in sphere, in the middle of it), and in the material editor make the texture to get it’s coordinates from the empty (click on “OB” and then add the name of empty to the box next to it).
Then you can just rotate the empty to get the wanted result. If you don’t want to render the thing every time you modify the empty’s orientation, you can use the Alt-Z shading in the 3d-view.

I’m not absolutely sure about this though.

Thanks ! That’s exactly what I needed.
