Ornamental Shield - realtime model

Thanks to Endi’s horse and Lion, I found some great ideas on how to finish this old project of mine, mainly the material. Granted it still looks a tad artificial (i.e. too clean) + the lowpoly model isn’t perfect, but eventually there’s a time to call a project done and move to other things and for this one the time is now.

866 triangles
1024x512 Textures (diffuse, normal, specular)
1024x1024 Normal map for small details.
Made with Blender and GIMP.

Cool I like it!

keep up the good work :stuck_out_tongue:

looked pretty ace then, still looks pretty ace now.

I have to say though that normal map is just plain ridiculous, the low poly one is just perfect. I agree that maybe some scratches etc. would add considering it’s a shield. Seriously i would love to have this in Oblivion.

Looks nice!

Was just thinking the same thing. This is one seriously awesome normal map.

Before even reading the comments, I had a room full of people staring at the image dreaming about carting that thing around in Oblivion. Personally, I’ve been working on an adventuresque game, and this is DEFINITELY going to be an inspiration for me. Great work!

Really, really great detailing there. I wouldn’t say it looks too artificial at all, just new or maybe ornamental. Would you mind sharing some detail on how you achieved the furry affect around the stags neck? Sculpted… or?
