Hello, Blender users! I have embarked on a journey… a journey to customize Blender so navigation is more in line with Source Filmmaker. For the most part, I was able to figure out what I needed to customize with the 3D viewport controls, however, the Outliner is another story. I’m really not a fan of Blender’s hierarchy system for bones. It takes too many clicks to find what you’re looking for. Whereas with the animation set editor in SFM, everything is organized neatly in bone groups, so it only takes a few clicks to expand the model’s animation set, bone group and then click on the bone. That’s basically only 3 clicks, whereas with Blender, it feels like it takes a million clicks to accomplish the same thing.
Seriously, look at this. This is not organized in the slightest. Now, let’s look at Ness’s setup in SFM.

As you can probably tell, I really love the way SFM puts bones into bonegroups that you can name for easy organization so you know where everything is and don’t have to go through a billion mouse clicks just to find bp_head or bip_thumb_2_L. If anyone knows how the same thing can be accomplished in Blender, I would really, really appreciate it. Like I said, I’m trying to customize Blender to make it more like home to me since I’m an SFM user. This is one of the last hurdles to overcome.
