Sharing a small Earth and Moon study focused on realistic planetary rendering with an artistic composition. I explored lighting, scale, atmospheric effects, and surface detail to create a believable space scene.
The Sun flare and other space elements were added in the compositing stage. Since the camera is very close to the Moon’s surface, real 3D geometry and very high-resolution textures were necessary to maintain realism.
Thank you, much appreciated! I hadn’t thought about animating it yet, but I think it would be cool if the camera starts in complete darkness, then moves upward to reveal the horizon and the Moon’s surface. As it continues to pull back, the Earth and then the Sun gradually come into view, one by one.
Thanks for sharing! I wasn’t aware of that workflow, it sounds quite technical. While I used color and height maps provided by NASA, the displacement was adjusted by eye, so it’s more of an artistic interpretation than a scientifically accurate one.
Hi there,
the image really looks great.
Hopefully i dont go too nitpicking here, but as far as i got the image right, the area of the moon that is visible in the picture is the side of the moon that is visible from earth. As the moon is tidaly locked, only one side can be seen from earth. From the camera perspective in your image, the far side of the moon should be visible, not the front side. Did i get that right? Thank you!
