Hey, all. Lemme just spare you the time and say I’m a noob. Big surprise, huh? I got blender 2.44 maybe a week ago. I started using some tutorials on wikipedia’s blender page, but then I decided I needed to learn how to make humans first. Somehow, I came upon makehuman 0.9.0 and it’s great. But I have some problems hopefully somebody can help answer. First off, after I create a model, it won’t save. It just says “Error. Couldn’t save file.” I don’t know if the directory’s a problem or what. The load won’t work, either. I guess they’re one in the same. I can export the file as an .obj. That helps for importing into blender, but I don’t know how to do much. Another problem, is with blender. Well not really blender, but me. I’ve been trying to understand tutorials about creating hair, but mine never comes out looking like that. Then, I tried the makehair program, and that just makes lines. I don’t really understand that one either. Next, for blender, is things like making eyebrows, eyelashes, and eyes, because I don’t like how makehuman does it. I really hope someone can help. And much appreciated.
My best advice, is if your new, go back a few steps, and start at the basics, and work your way up. Don’t rush yourself. Things like hair, eyebrows, and faces are usually advanced, and take a little more than a few weeks experience to master.
i totaly agree often the best way to learn is just to play around with all the setting and leave organic modeling until you can confidently model inanimate objects. ps try reading the wiki tutorials
I understand that. Only fools rush in. But let me ask you somethin else. When I import my makehuman file into blender, how do I say, change the color of the nails, instead of the whole model?
under the edit button there is a window that says links and matirials and under that there is a option to assign vert groups to mat you need to assign the verts of the nails to a new group and change the mat to say 2 instead of 1 or 0 so that the nails now have a seperate mat to the body. if you read the blender wiki there is a more in depth explanation on how to do this. hope this helped.
I’m going to recommend you put your “I need to learn how to make humans first” decision on hold for a bit, and go back to the tutorials. Your fingernail color question is answered in the tutorials you are avoiding in your rush to get into the good stuff. Understandable, but counterproductive. Fools not only rush in, but haste makes waste. Hate to see you waste your time.
You didn’t mention which tutorials you’d been working on, and its easy to find tutorials that are out of date or misleading. The best beginner tutorial I’ve found so far is Ryan’s Introduction to Character Animation which is a winner even if you have no intention of ever doing any animation. You’ll spend 10, maybe 20 hours working through this tutorial, but it will be the most productive use of 20 hours you could have at this point in your blendering career.
Thanks, ya’ll. And buddy, you don’t gotta preach to me. I’ve been through so much, I’ve found that not only do those sayings get annoying, they get old. But thanks for more advice.
