Temporizer, Make Temporary Snapshot Versions (2.79 / 2.8x) (Free)

Updated. v1.1 [NEW] The file names now include human readable times and dates. [NEW] It will bring up a name entry window for a file name if it has never been saved. [NEW] 2.81 support. [FIX] This add-on now supports 2.80 and upward versions only.

You can make as many copies as you want on demand w it, it makes time copied temp versions. Set up a special folder for your versions if you want.

Also do not forget to set up proper daily or hourly backups for your files.
