parent to vertex group

Is there a way to parent an object to a mesh’s vertex group, not the whole mesh, like an armature?

d_enes,

Yes indeed! Kind of. Select the child object, shift select the parent object, tab into edit mode…here is the limitation - you can parent to either 1 vertex or 3 - select the verts, then press ctrl p.

Best f Luck!

Only one or three vertices? why that particular amount?

d_enes,

No idea really.

Hi d_enes

You could also try using the Child of constraint which has a vertex group field. The tool tip for the VG field says “Name of vertex group defining “target” points” whatever that means. It might need some experimentation to find out how this works

When I parent an object to a vertex group with the Child constraint, it makes my child object shrink and offset to the center point of the parent object. 0_o

coryalantaylor: this is an old thread, so you shouldnt really post here. this was over a year ago, when my name was still d_enes.

thats because it supposed to offset to the center point. recenter the object and you should get the results you want.

1 vertex = location
3 vertices = location and rotation

Thanks, been waiting 11 years for an answer
